All About Hyatt Free Night Awards

resort in a hotel

It’s no secret that Hyatt is my favorite hotel chain. Points can be earned in a variety of ways, award nights cost less than at other chains, and they’re the only one that still uses an award chart, making it easy to plan stays.

Hyatt also has Free Night Awards which can be earned in many ways. Right now, there’s a new, limited-time credit card offer for up to five FNAs! It’s important to understand how to earn and use them, so let’s dive in.

What Are Hyatt Free Night Awards

Hyatt FNAs are awards that can be used to book one free night per award at a Hyatt hotel. There are three types of awards: Category 1-4, Category 1-7, and Ultimate Category 1-8. Hyatt assigns all of its hotels a category. So, this means these FNAs can be used at any hotel in categories 1 to 4, 1 to 7, or 1-8, depending on which award you have. You can see a hotel’s category in the Hyatt app or on the website. You can also use this page to filter by specific categories.

How to Earn Hyatt Free Night Awards

Category 1-4 free nights are by far the most common and can be earned in a variety of ways.

  • Credit card welcome offers: The World of Hyatt Credit Card currently has a limited-time elevated offer for up to five FNAs – three after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening and two more after you spend $15,000 on purchases in the first six months. This card also comes with a free night award every year that you spend $15k on it, so you’ll actually end up with SIX FNAs!
  • Hyatt Brand Explorer: stay at five different Hyatt brands and earn a free night award
  • Milestone rewards: earn one free night award when you stay 30 nights at Hyatt properties within one calendar year
  • Benefit on card anniversary: earn one free night award on each card account anniversary when you pay your annual fee
  • Credit card spending: spend $15,000 on the Hyatt card and earn one additional free night award per year

The other two types of Free Night Awards can be earned when staying 60 and 100 nights (Category 1-7 FNA) and 150 nights (Ultimate Category 1-8 FNA).

When Do Hyatt Free Night Awards Expire?

The expiration dates of Hyatt FNAs depend on how the award was earned. As a general rule, FNAs expire six months after being issued.

However, this does not apply to awards earned through credit cards. Those expire one year after being issued.

How to Use Hyatt Free Night Awards

Once earned, Hyatt FNAs live in your Hyatt account under “Awards”. This shows you the awards you have and when they expire.

To use your award, select it, then select “redeem”. This will take you to a search page where you can put in your dates and destination. You’ll then go through the process of booking like normal.

If you have more than one award or want to use a combination of FNAs and Hyatt points, you can use the Pay My Way option to select which nights to use your awards, points, or cash.

If you want to use a combination of FNAs and Hyatt points to book multiple nights, you can earn more Hyatt points by transferring from Chase.
