My thoughts
I'll be honest, if you're going to put any real spending on a Marriott card, you should probably just get the Boundless instead. The $95 annual fee pays for itself with the anniversary Free Night Award every year, and you'll earn more points on your spending. But the Bold has a very specific use case: it's a great starter card if you want to get into the Marriott ecosystem without committing to an annual fee, or as a card to keep open for free after downgrading from the Boundless. The Silver Elite Status gives you late checkout and priority reservations. Just don't expect a ton of bells and whistles — this card is exactly what it says it is. Also worth knowing: Amex issues a set of Marriott cards too (the Bevy, Brilliant, and Business), so depending on your situation, you may want to look at both families before applying.
How to use your points
Marriott Bonvoy points earned on the Bold work the same as any other Bonvoy card. Here's how to put them to use:
- Book free hotel nights at any of Marriott's 9,000+ properties worldwide
- Combine points with other Marriott cards in your household to reach redemptions faster
- Transfer to 40+ airline partners — every 60,000 Bonvoy points = 25,000 airline miles + a 5,000-mile bonus
- Use Pay Yourself Back to redeem points toward qualifying travel purchases made with airlines or Marriott hotels
The only no-annual-fee Marriott card — good for getting into the Bonvoy ecosystem without spending a dime.
- Automatic Silver Elite Status at no cost — late checkout, priority reservations, 10% bonus points on stays
- 5 Elite Night Credits per year toward Gold Status
- 12 months of complimentary DashPass when activated
- No annual fee, no foreign transaction fees
- Tip: If you stay at Marriott more than a couple times a year, the Boundless ($95/year) is a better deal thanks to the annual Free Night Award
- Note: Amex also issues Marriott cards — welcome bonus eligibility restrictions apply across both issuers
