My thoughts
This card is great for someone who wants to dip their toes into IHG without paying an annual fee. Having no fee means there's no downside to keeping it open forever, and the fourth night free on award stays is genuinely valuable for longer trips. The welcome offer is the best part — 125,000 points with only a $2,000 spending requirement in the first 3 months is a very easy ask. That said, if you stay at IHG more than once a year, I'd really encourage you to look at the Premier card instead. That's the one I have. The annual free night certificate alone is usually worth more than the $99 fee.
How to use your points
IHG One Rewards points are best used for free hotel nights at IHG properties. Here are the best ways to use them:
- Book free nights at Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, Kimpton, InterContinental, and more
- Use the fourth night free perk — pay points for 3 nights and get the 4th free on consecutive award stays
- Use Points & Cash awards to stretch your stash further
A solid no-fee card with a great welcome offer, but the Premier is a better long-term choice for most IHG fans.
- No annual fee means zero risk — open it, earn the bonus, keep it forever
- The welcome offer is generous for a no-fee card, especially with the low $2,000 spending requirement
- Fourth night free is still included, which is a big deal for longer award stays
- If you stay at IHG more than once a year, the Premier card is probably worth the $99
